Derion Searcey was born on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Pike High School in 2016 with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. He went on to eventually graduate from Indiana University- Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI) with a degree in political science and a concentration in pre-law. At IUPUI, he was involved with the pre-law society club, as well as the Mock Trial Team where he learned proper courtroom etiquette, rules of evidence, and how to present a case.

Derion Searcey wants to attend law school to study criminal defense to become a criminal defense attorney. He was recently an intern for the Indiana General Assembly (IGA) for the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) where he worked closely with Representatives Robin Shackleford of District 98 and Vanessa Summers of district 99. Working closely with representatives at the Indiana Statehouse has gained Derion’s attention to politics. He is now working as a Call time Manager/ Chief of staff for Destiny Scott Well, where he oversees interns and volunteers on the team.

With his leadership and work ethic, while interning for the IBLC, Derion has gained knowledge and relationships that have prompted many opportunities going forward.

While Derion has some free time, he is usually volunteering at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic. You can also find Derion online shopping, or trying to keep his body in shape. Derion hopes to gain more knowledge in politics and also the law on issues dealing with African Americans in our legal system.
