We the Young Democrats of Marion County, in order to further the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party, to promote the election of the party’s candidates for public office at all levels, to encourage the involvement of young people in civic and political affairs, and to promote harmony and fellowship with one another, established the Marion County Young Democrats.
Marion County Young Democrats
Our Mission
Together we can make a difference in Indiana!
Our organization represents Democratic Hoosiers between the ages of fourteen and thirty-six. All prospective members must pledge to uphold our bylaws, be a Democrat in good standing, and become either a member of the local chapter and the statewide organization.
Our Objectives
This is what we’re all about.
Widen and Increase
To widen and increase the interest, knowledge, and participation of young people in government, the political process, and civic involvement.
Increase Awareness and Activism
To increase awareness and activism on issues of importance to young people.
Inclusion
To increase the role of under-represented people in the Democratic Party, government, and society.
Meet our team
Elected annually, they lead our group to do great things in Marion County.
Issues that matter to us.
This is what we fight for as young Democrats.
Healthcare
Healthcare is a human right. In America today, no one should die because they can’t afford care. And yet many Americans still suffer because of the outrageous costs of healthcare today. We advocate for the state legislature to eliminate the benefits cliff, end surprise billing, end out of network costs at Emergency Departments and expand healthcare benefits for all Hoosiers.
Education
Every child deserves access to a high quality education that leads to a career with a living wage. Every child deserves the opportunity to fulfill the American Dream. In order to achieve that vision, we demand greater resources to schools in all zip codes, higher teacher wages, and increased career pathways for students of all backgrounds.
Climate Change
Climate change is an existential threat on a global scale. With sea level rise, individuals may soon be forced to migrate, causing a massive human toll. Here at home, air quality disproportionately impacts people of color. This crisis exists in all facets of life and requires a whole of government approach and long term commitment to resolve.
Racial Justice
Black lives matter. For too long in our society we have seen Black people brutalized and marginalized. Racial justice involves these obvious aspects but also economic advancement, educational attainment, and historical recognition.
Redistricting
Politicians should not choose their voters. Voters should choose their representatives. By drawing lines based on partisan priorities, Indiana Republicans ensure that many Hoosier voices are not represented. We demand fair districts to ensure all Hoosiers can make voices heard.
